Outside Projects for New Adair Homes

We finally have a backyard! Our house was completed in the winter and for the past six months our yard has been a work in progress (mostly a mud pit all winter long). We now have a back yard with grass, garden area and play area. Once the irrigation was installed and the grass was growing we knew we wanted to get a fence up to keep the kids in the back. Luckily most of the yard was already fenced and we only needed a fence across the front.

I was able to put up the fence over the course of a couple of weekends. This is something you can hire out, but is also fairly easy to diy. It’s mostly just time consuming.

The landscape is a work in progress and I think there will always be projects around in the back. Right now I’m working installing arbors to grow plants on and to give us something to look at instead of the chain link fence on one side of our yard.

We’d also like to put in a shed or some type of covered area on the side of the house to store yard equipment in, so once the arbors are set up, that might be the next project.

Our family eats a lot of berries and fruits, so our hope is to have a robust garden. By the time the irrigation was installed it was later in the planting season, but we were able to get some berry plants in the ground. We won’t get any blueberries this season, but hopefully we’ll have some next year.

We planted three different types of blueberry plants from Bushel and Berry. Each has a different time of harvest so hopefully it works out so we get blueberries all summer long. The three types of plants that we planted were the Perpetua, Blueberry Buckle and Southern Bluebelle. We already had the Raspberry Shortcake plant, so we wanted to try the blueberries as well!

We’ve enjoyed being in a new house, and with the yard mostly complete it really makes it feel more like a home. Landscaping takes a lot of time and can be expensive so you don’t want to overlook it when you’re planning a new home. Looking out into the yard at grass instead of a pile of dirt/mud makes such a big difference!
