Day 193 – Certificate of Occupancy for an Adair Homes New Build in Oregon

It took exactly 190 days from start of foundation to certificate of occupancy. When we originally started this whole process we were told that it usually takes about 4-6 months to complete a home. When we signed our contract we were told that there was a chance we would be able to get into the home by late November/ early December. After we met for the first time with the construction team we were told the end of January.

Even though we were told we could finish earlier, we still had in mind that it would end up taking six month or more to build a new home. Once the foundation was started everything was mostly on schedule. There were days/weeks that nothing was happening that could have decreased the build time, but even with those days we were still able to finish on time.

It is definitely possible to build a home quicker than six months, but the size and customization of the home can take extra time. One person I follow on instagram started their Adair Homes build the exact same time we did and finished in the original time line that we were told; they did do a smaller floor plan so I don’t know how much that made a difference.

Even though we didn’t meet the first deadline we were told, getting everything completed in six months is still very fast for building a new home. Others I’ve seen who do the general contracting themselves can take years to build a home, and for a custom home builder its typically going to take more than six months.

Looking back at pictures it’s hard to think about all the work that has gone on since we first started. This time last year there was a condemned home on the lot, and now there is a new house.

We might be moving into the new house next week, but we are still far from living in a completed home. There are a number of things we left out that we thought we’d be able to do on our own including the mud room, laundry room, upgrading lighting and landscaping.

Thank you all for following along as we build our new Adair Homes house. I hope you all continue to follow as we turn this house into a home!
